Influence of surface treatment and degradation on the flexural strength of zirconia

The zirconia material is affected by the complex oral environment such as chewing, temperature changes, saliva, etc. It has a potential low-temperature aging effect, affecting the long-term effect of the restoration. At the same time, during the trial wearing of the zirconia full crown, necessary adjustments should be made to the abutment, shape and bite. After grinding, the common surface smoothing methods are mainly polishing and glazing. Some people think that the clinical grinding process will cause stress to act on the small defects of the restoration, accelerate the aging of the restoration, and thus affect the service life of the restoration. Polishing and glazing can reduce sharp cracks in the material and increase the strength of all-ceramic materials.

It is proved through experiments that the zirconia material has extremely stable mechanical properties, and the grinding and low temperature aging have almost no effect on its strength, and it is an oral material with extremely high development prospects.
